About Marie de Crane d'Heysselaer

Marie is an associate in our antitrust, competition and trade group, based in the Brussels office. Her practice covers all aspects of EU and Belgian antitrust and regulatory law. She joined the firm as a legal consultant in 2016 and became an associate in 2018. During 2022 she was seconded to our Silicon Valley office from where she worked on a variety of transatlantic and tech mandates.

Since joining Freshfields, Marie's experience has covered EU and global merger control, including a Phase II merger control investigation requiring remedies reviewed by the European Commission. She has also worked on a number of EU and Belgian antitrust investigations and follow-on damages litigation.

Marie has advised clients from across a broad range of industry sectors, including consumer goods, financial institutions, industrials, life sciences and tech.

Marie is fluent in English, French and Dutch.

 

Recent work

  • Advising Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings on the EU merger control aspects of its proposed acquisition of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, which was subject to an in-depth Phase II review by the European Commission.
  • Advising Deutsche Bank on the merger control and competition law aspects of the Master Transaction Agreement for its Global Prime Finance business and its electronic equity trading business with BNP Paribas.
  • Advising UPS on the merger control and foreign direct investment aspects of its acquisition of healthcare logistics provider, BOMI Group.
  • Advising a leading consumer goods company in an antitrust investigation by the Belgian competition authority.
  • Representing an industrials company in follow-on damages litigation before the Belgian courts pursuant to an antitrust investigation by the European Commission.
  • Advising a leading life sciences company in an antitrust investigation of the Belgian competition authority.
