About Sergei Diyachenko
Sergei advises major Russian and international corporates and financial institutions on various transactions in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the petroleum and mining industries in Russia, western Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere.
As head of the firm's energy and natural resources practice in Russia and the CIS, Sergei co-ordinates lawyers in varied fields of expertise in the sector, including M&A, joint ventures, project finance, securities, dispute resolution, environmental, regulatory and commercial work.
He is known for 'his notoriously sharp, hands-on stewardship of deals' and has detailed knowledge of the intricacies of the national regulatory frameworks that apply to the oil and gas and mining sector, such as the implications of Russian foreign strategic investment law. He has also established valuable working relationships with some of the industry's key players and decision makers.
Sergei speaks Russian and English.
- Advising Rosneft on a wide range of domestic and international transactions including its strategic co-operation agreements with ExxonMobil and BP to establish upstream JVs in the Russian Arctic, Black Sea and elsewhere in Russia and internationally.
- Advising Eni on the approximately $3bn sale to Yamal Development (a joint venture of Novatek and Gazprom neft) of its 60 per cent equity stake in Arctic Russia encompassing Eni's natural gas upstream business in Russia.
- Advising ConocoPhillips on the $3.44bn sale of its 7.6 per cent interest in LUKOIL, Russia’s largest private oil producer, back to LUKOIL, and on the disposal programme of its remaining 12.4 per cent interest in LUKOIL valued at around $5.5bn.
