About Jon Fougner

Jon advises and represents clients in securities and shareholder matters. He has litigated in state and federal courts and arbitration, handled class and non-class cases, and worked at the trial and appellate level. He was named a 2024 Rising Star by Super Lawyers.

Before joining Freshfields, Jon focused on coordinated and multidistrict litigations, including antitrust disputes in the pharmaceutical, polyurethane, and telescope industries. During law school, he published a quantitative model for antitrust enforcement in the Yale Journal on Regulation, served as Projects Editor of the Yale Law Journal, and selected articles for the Yale Journal of Law & Technology.

Jon has been passionate about innovation since growing up near Silicon Valley. After college, he advised financial-technology ventures at Goldman Sachs and helped build the social-advertising platform at Facebook.  He has been granted patents for dispute-resolution software. He supports founders and has been an early investor in private companies in biotechnology, fintech, and space exploration. His pro bono work serves local entrepreneurs. In his free time, Jon enjoys independent film and backing underrepresented voices.

  • Represented software and hardware companies in securities class actions and shareholder derivative actions.
  • Represented an information-technology company in merger-related litigation.
  • Represented technology companies on books-and-records demands.
  • Represented an electric-vehicle charging network in a DGCL Section 205 petition following its de-SPAC.
  • Advised software companies on jurisdictional issues and contract negotiations.
