About Alex Potts

Alex is a corporate associate in our global transactions group in London, advising clients on public and private M&A transactions, joint venture arrangements and general corporate and listed company matters.

During his time at Freshfields, Alex has spent time on secondment to the firm's Hong Kong office and to the Compass Group Legal M&A team. Alex is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French and Mandarin.

Public M&A

  • GXO Logistics, Inc. on its £762m all-cash recommended public takeover offer for the entire issued share capital of Wincanton plc
  • Parker-Hannifin Corporation on its $8.8bn recommended cash acquisition of Meggitt PLC
  • Comcast on its £30bn acquisition of Sky
  • Georgia Capital PLC on its share exchange offer for Georgia Healthcare Group PLC 
  • Dubai World PLC on the recommended cash offer by Port & Free Zone World FZE (a wholly owned subsidiary of Dubai World)
  • Northgate plc on its all-share merger with Redde plc

Private M&A

  • Amanda Staveley, her investment vehicle PCP Capital Partners, and a consortium led by the Public Investment Fund on the acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club from Mike Ashley
  • Compass Group on the acquisitions of CH&CO, and of Hofmann-Menü Holdings GmbH from Partners Group
  • Allfunds on the acquisition of a majority stake in MainStreet Partners
  • DAZN Group on the multi-jurisdiction carve out and sale of a majority stake in its digital football-focused platforms business to Integrated Media Company, a TPG Capital porfolio company
  • Permira on its acquisition of Grobest, a pan-Asia aquatic feed business headquartered in Taiwan with operations in Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia
  • Scotiabank on the disposal of its 49% interest in Thanachart Bank to TMB Bank as part of the merger between Thanachart Bank and TMB Bank (Thailand's largest-ever banking merger)

Reorganisations and governance

  • The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the spin out of The Earthshot Prize, the global environmental prize, to formally become an independent charity
  • The Earthshot Prize on ongoing governance matters
  • Public Sector Pension Investment Board in relation to its investment in NeXtWind
  • The trustees of the Interserve pension scheme on governance matters in relation to the restructuring of the group's financial debt
  • DAZN Group and Access Industries on a number of equity and investment matters
