About William Robinson

William is a hands-on, practical and creative commercial litigator who specialises in multi-jurisdictional disputes, investigations and regulatory issues.

In addition to commercial disputes, William specialises in complex interactions with regulators and the fall-out from their decisions. He has extensive expertise across a wide range of sectors in anti-trust litigation, judicial reviews, EU / international trade, ABC and sanctions and commercial human rights.

During his career, William has spent considerable periods working in Luxembourg (at the European Court of Justice), Hong Kong (where he led the Asia disputes practice and was Hong Kong office managing partner) and London.  He is qualified in, and practices from, London and Hong Kong.

Recent work

  • Advising Japan Tobacco International in worldwide regulatory litigation and disputes
  • Advising various private equity companies in post-M&A disputes (arbitration and litigation) arising from transactions in China, Korea and Hong Kong.
  • Advising an international telecoms company in the investigation of alleged revenue recognition accounting fraud, and associated regulatory and litigation strategy
  • Advising international pharmaceutical companies in the investigation of alleged bribery and corruption practices in China, Hong Kong and Vietnam
  • Advising international private equity houses in anti-bribery and corruption due diligence in respect of multiple investments in China and Indonesia
  • Advising international banks, Chinese banks and international pension funds in their sanctions due diligence in respect of finance and M&A transaction in Asia

Qualifications

  • Education

William studied and taught law at the University of Durham, UK, and worked for Judge Sir David Edward at the European Court of Justice, Luxembourg, between 1995 and 1999.
