Antitrust Off the Record: A conversation with Julie Elmer and Jan Rybnicek on antitrust and the 2020 election

Freshfields leading team discusses how a potentially changing administration will impact antitrust laws.

The discussion will be led by Freshfields’ newest antitrust litigation partner, Julie Elmer and antitrust counsel Jan Rybnicek. Julie joined the firm this summer after 5 years as a trial attorney at the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, where she led two merger trials and was described as one of the Division’s “top litigators” by Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim. Jan is an antitrust specialist who advises clients on a range of antitrust issues, including US merger review and civil conduct investigations. Jan served as an attorney advisor to former Commissioner Joshua D. Wight of the FTC and helped recommend competition and consumer protection enforcement actions and policy initiatives.

Jan and Julie have served in the DOJ and FTC under past and present Administrations giving them immense insight into how the government puts together a case and what policy differences we can expect to see under another term of the Trump Administration or under new leadership in a Biden Administration.

This insightful conversation will be moderated by Freshfields’ co-head of global antitrust litigation, Eric Mahr, who joined Freshfields after serving as the Director of Litigation for the DOJ's Antitrust Division from 2015 through 2017.
