Tax Talk Series: US tax credits and EU subsidies rules: a potentially poisoned chalice

Time: 1:00 - 1:30 PM EST

The US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has triggered harsh reactions in Europe where it is seen as unduly protective of US companies and incentivises European companies to invest in the US rather than Europe.

Share this event with your colleagues and connections on social media.

The new tax credits available to firms under the IRA could be seen as “distortive foreign subsidies” when seen from a European perspective. The European Union has just passed a new regulation, the “Foreign Subsidies Regulation” (FSR) that sanctions companies active in Europe if they are beneficiaries of financial benefits from non-EU states.

Our panel will discuss:

  • How US tax credits may be caught by the FSR
  • What challenges beneficiaries of these credits could face when doing business in the EU
  • How this squares with international trade rules
