The extraterritorial taxation of German registered IP has been on the radar of many multinational enterprises over the last two years. Though many MNEs are supposedly treaty protected, there are significant procedural and legal hurdles to overcome when claiming treaty relief for historic transactions as well as for future ones (in addition to practical problems arising from the large backlog in the processing of pending applications).

With the June 30, 2022 deadline for applications for the simplified procedure fast approaching, join our panel of experts who will discuss some of these challenges and ways to tackle them.

Our panel will discuss:

  • a recap of the “section 49” German tax issue
  • experience on key hurdles to claiming treaty relief
  • what challenges may arise after June 30, 2022 and how to deal with them.
