Professional and business services
Services for service providers
This diverse sector provides high-level, innovative services to other businesses – enabling them to thrive. Firms within this sector face a range of unique challenges and opportunities that require multifaceted advice.
Audit firms, for example, faced pressure to toughen up processes in the wake of the financial crisis. And professional services firms more generally are focused on staying ahead of the technology game if they want to maintain a competitive advantage.
With a broad client base of organizations that provide services to other businesses, we are well placed to advise you on these issues, as well as matters involving M&A, professional liability, competition law, disputes, regulation and capital markets.
Client successes
In one of The Lawyer’s top 20 cases of 2011, we acted for Accenture for over five years in a dispute over a project agreement to implement a new IT system for Centrica’s British Gas business. The case was settled on confidential terms in August 2011.
We acted for EY in a range of issues arising from the collapse of its former audit client Lehman Brothers in September 2008. This involved handling investigations and enquiries by multiple regulators, administrators or liquidators of numerous Lehman Brothers entities across a range of jurisdictions.
We are assisting Deloitte on the partnership aspects of the creation of its North West European LLP encompassing the nine Deloitte firms in the UK, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, which will launch on June 1, 2017.
We advised EY as joint administrators on all aspects of the administration of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Limited, the English subsidiary of the Icelandic bank Kaupthing. This included dealing with its subsidiaries and employment, pension, property and litigation issues, as well as advising on the winding down of the loan book and business.
