About George Lumbers

George is a Senior Associate in our antitrust litigation group.

George has particular experience in commercial disputes and investigations, including follow-on competition litigation and competition-related regulatory investigations.

During his time at Freshfields, George has spent six months on secondment to the firm's Berlin office.

 

Recent work

Acting for a multinational automotive manufacturer in relation to regulatory issues and civil proceedings arising out of allegations concerning the affected vehicles’ emissions.

Acting for ABB in the leading BritNed v ABB High Court action and in the Court of Appeal. The case was the first cartel damages follow-on claim to go to final judgment at first instance, and on appeal, in the UK.  ABB defended the claim successfully at trial and prevailed on all points in the October 2019 Court of Appeal judgment. George has also represented ABB in a range of other damages claims relating to the power cables cartel.

Acting for various FA Premier League football clubs in litigation, arbitration and investigatory proceedings.

Acting for pro bono for clients including the AIRE Centre before the Court of Appeal and UK Supreme Court.

Acting on numerous other competition litigation proceedings, and in investigations, in a range of markets and sectors including technology, media, financial services and sport.
