Freshfields advises American Express Global Business Travel on its acquisition of Hogg Robinson Group

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) has advised American Express Global Business Travel (‘American Express GBT’), a leading global travel management company, on its acquisition of Hogg Robinson Group PLC (‘HRG’), a global B2B services company specialising in travel management. The acquisition is conditional on the receipt of antitrust and other regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2018.

Both American Express GBT and HRG have made significant investments in people and technology in recent years. The combined group will offer clients and travellers a more comprehensive range of travel management products and services.

The Freshfields team navigated a complex transaction landscape, which included a concurrent sale by HRG of its technology business.

The Freshfields team was led by partners Adrian Maguire, James Scott and Andrew Murphy, along with senior associate Vincent Bergin. Partner Frank Montag led the team advising on competition law.
